Peer Music Judge ACM songwriting competition

Monday, June 11, 2012

As a business partner of the Academy of Contemporary Music, peer music is often heavily involved in much of what goes on there. Newton Faulkner is an ACM alumni so we are aware of the quality of musicians and songwriters coming through and are constantly on the look out for next big thing.

Our Creative Director Richard Holley recently judged this years Songwriting competion, here is what he had to say:

On the 29th of May, I had the great honour of judging this year's ACM Song Writing Competition, which I have done a couple of times before.

The standard was particularly high this year and it was great to see the students being so supportive of each other.   It was really hard to choose a winner but I felt 'Phone Call Away' by George Pepole struck an instant, powerful and emotive connection with the listener, which, to me, is a sign of a great song.  As part of the prize, George will have a couple of days in our studio and I really look forward to hearing a recorded version of the song.

The winning track can be viewed on our home page as the video of the week, alternative go here to watch it directly on Youtube Phone Call Away - George Pepole
