New Signing: Salaam Remi

Wednesday, June 21, 2017

After a competitive bidding process with multiple publishers, multi-platinum producer Salaam Remi has signed an exclusive worldwide administration deal with peermusic, as announced today by Kathy Spanberger, President & Chief Operating Officer, peermusic and Tuff Morgan, Director of A&R, Pop/Urban, peermusic. One of the most successful and well-known producers in music, Remi has crafted hits for artists including Nas, Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, Miguel, the Fugees, Jazmine Sullivan, Ricky Martin, and many others.

“peermusic’s deal with Salaam is exciting for everyone here, especially our creative team. He’s truly one of music’s premier global talents, and he has an incredible catalog of music that demonstrates that. I also want to congratulate Tuff on this signing -- he worked extremely hard on this deal and I’m thrilled we got it done,” said Kathy Spanberger, President & Chief Operating Officer, peermusic.

“Partnering with someone with Salaam’s talent and accomplishments is always exciting, but it’s pretty rare when that person is also one of your great friends in the industry. I remember first meeting Salaam as a studio runner in the 90’s and then eventually collaborating on an album together, so to be closing a deal with him today as his publishing creative manager is a very special moment for me,” Tuff Morgan, Director of A&R, Pop/Urban, peermusic.

After previously partnering with peermusic for other endeavors I realized that this would be the best place for my songs. I’m really excited to be working again with Kathy, Tuff, Ralph and Mary Megan -- they've been great partners and I look forward to the many things that we can get done in the future as I build onto the next phase of my career,” said Salaam Remi.

Some of the hit songs Salaam Remi has worked on throughout his career include Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire”; Estelle’s “Cup of Tea”; Fergie’s “Labels or Love”; Amy Winehouse’s “Stronger Than Me,” “In My Bed,” “Fuck Me Pumps,” “Tears Dry on Their Own,” and “Just Friends”; Nas’ “I Can” and “Made You Look”; the Fugees’ “Fu-Gee-La”; B.o.B’s “Play the Guitar” ft. Andre 3000; Miguel’s “All I Want is You” ft. J. Cole; Fergie’s “Labels or Love”; Ini Kamoze’s “Here Comes the Hotstepper,” and many others. Beyond his work with artists, Remi has also had big placements in film, including Executive Music Producer for Rush Hour 3 as well as for film versions of Sex in the City and Sex in the City 2.

In addition to this recent partnership, Remi’s LIFE b4 Music and peermusic signed a joint venture that pre-dates his new deal. They have recently signed James Poyser (The Roots) and UK artist to watch in 2017 Miraa May, and its songwriters also accounted for the recent No. 1 Urban record "Amen" by Anthony Hamilton (co- written and produced by James Poyser). Remi’s song catalog was previously published by EMI/Sony/ATV.

The Salaam Remi deal comes right as peermusic is celebrating its 90th anniversary as a company. Peermusic was founded 90 years ago by renowned visionary Ralph S. Peer, and today is the largest independent music publisher in the world, with a global footprint of 32 offices in 28 countries and over a quarter of a million copyrights. The company has a rich history of A&R prowess and is known for continually broadening the boundaries of genres and helping artists, songwriters, and producers to launch and sustain successful careers. With nearly a century of consistent growth, it’s clear that peermusic is just getting started.
